Joey Nash’s Art

Joey Nash is a multi-Award winning, self-taught, Professional Artist who resides in Chase, BC. She began painting in 1979 and was exhibiting her work in galleries in Vancouver, B.C. within a year. She became an Active member of The Federation of Canadian Artists the first time she applied.

A life change caused a return to Kamloops in 2002. Her passion for Art had to be honoured and shared with others so, she focused on teaching. She loved to share her passion for Art and quickly became a favourite teacher for Kamloops Art Gallery, Kamloops Recreation and Culture and taught privately, as well. She explored various mediums and techniques while helping her students to find their voices as Artists and when time off allowed, she produced over 40 pieces in one year.

Due to the encouragement of her students, 2006 marked a rededication to her career. She celebrated her first Solo Show at the Kamloops Arts Council’s Gallery and received wide acclaim for her painting “Maggie”, which won Jurors’ Choice, Peoples’ Choice and the prestigious Patterson Award at the Shuswap Lake Festival of the Arts. She is an accomplished Wildlife and Portrait Painter whose favourite medium is Oil, but she produces beautiful Watercolours and Rendered Drawings, as well.

She has now had numerous Solo and Group Exhibitions of her work, has won many Awards, has work in numerous private and Corporate Collections and she accepts commissions.

Joey has been Artist-In-Residence at Pacific Way, Heffley Creek and Parkcrest Elementary Schools, thanks to funding from Artstarts. She was hired as the Visual Artist for the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games and has taught many Teacher In-Service and Private Workshops for Amateur and Professional Artists as well as her work with young people.

She brings a passion for Art to her work and to her teaching and it is often contagious! She has seen the results of incorporating Art into peoples’ daily lives. She regards Art as a language and as a tool that reaches across barriers, increasing confidence and self-esteem. She has many faithful, long-term students of all ages, abilities and disabilities. She has taught classes and Workshops for South Surrey, Chilliwack Museum, City of Kamloops, Kamloops Art Gallery, Kamloops Arts Council, Children’s Art Festivals, Shuswap Festival of the Arts, Western Canada Summer Games. She has planned, organized and executed multiple murals using student crews, has instructed 300 students in multiple mediums and then organized a Gallery of the work produced. She now offers Adult Classes at Chase Museum – Wednesdays 1-3pm!
