The Blind Bay Painters are celebrating Canada Day their way by hosting an art show and sale for the community! There are over 120 pieces of artwork and several boutique items all original works from local artists just a hop skip and a jump from the Centennial field where much of the celebrations are held at Blind Bay! Door prizes are given out daily; yesterday’s door prize painting was won by Diana Crinion! Come enjoy the artwork, and if something moves you, pick one up for your home or a gift. Artists are here to talk about the works and we have free goodies and coffee/beverages while you sit and relax and remember why it’s so great to be Canadian!

Blind Bay Painters 2018 Art Show and Sale

Blind Bay Painters 2018 Art Show and Sale

The Blind Bay Painters are celebrating Canada Day their own way, by hosting their annual art show and sale on Jun 30 and July 1 from 10 am – 4 pm.  Each year, the Blind Bay Painters (local artists from the Shuswap area) exhibit their original art at the Blind Bay hall and invite the world to see it!

The popular Blind Bay Painter’s challenge is different this year and requires the artist to  use only 2 complimentary colors and black and white in the development of a painting. The challenge creates an emphasis on tonal values for each painting and a natural harmony due to the complimentary colors.

The original works vary; watercolour, acrylics, oils, and mixed mediums; and are different sizes and prices to accommodate any budget.  Many reflect inspiration from the beautiful Shuswap area, so a perfect gift or souvenir.

We continue to have an artisan boutique with hand made items, jewelry, art cards, prints and other works.  As usual, there will be door prizes, goodies and beverages, and artists available to answer any questions you might have about creating art.

Lots to see and do, in a cool air-conditioned environment, so come take a break from the bustle of the celebrations and spend a few moments reflecting with beautiful art and creative works around you!  See you there!

Getting Artsy at Eagle Bay

Eagle Bay Community is “getting artsy” with the intake of some new workshops in their community hall.  Sallyanne Calver has organized some great workshops to bring the arts to Eagle Bay.  When I asked Sallyanne about herself and why she decided to take on this endeavour, she was happy to share her story with me.  Sallyanne indicated “We retired to Eagle Bay in 2013 as a place to settle for our retirement years.  A place to enjoy the outdoors, and a chance to try all the things we hadn’t had time to do while working.  One of items on our bucket list was to try different mediums of art.  As we developed new friendships, we discovered that there were others like us, looking for opportunity to express themselves with art.    Eagle Bay is a community that encourages and supports new ventures, along with a community hall that is perfect for holding workshops.  So we took a chance and kicked off a monthly art workshop with Ukraine Egg Painting, the two session of painting Pot People, then onto Acrylic Ink Tile.  The response has been so positive we continue to arrange workshops held on the last Wednesday of the month.

Of late, she invited Diana Waller, artist from Blind Bay, to do a workshop on acrylic ink on tile.  Diana is known for her creative mixed media artwork and Her some of her work can be found on Artintheshuswap.com.  Fifteen people registered from all around the Shuswap area.  Time was spent learning, painting, talking, and laughing and they all went home with their own handmade art tile.   Art in the Shuswap motto is “Art brings People Together” and this is a shining example of the great things that art can do for a community!
