Growing up in Ontario, Karen discovered her love of nature early in life. As a child, she always felt happiest while hiking in the woods observing nature’s beauty or attending art classes in school. She began her artistic endeavours studying photography and cinematography at college. At the age of eighteen she won an award for best landscape photograph in The Toronto Sun’s, Kodak International Photography Contest.
Inspired by her father’s talent for oil painting and wanting to broaden her scope of fine arts, Karen attended The Ontario College of Art and Design, studying figure drawing and sculpting. She loved the feel of clay and how light affected the mood and design of a piece of sculpture.
After taking time to raise her two sons, Karen pursued her love of art through painting with a digital medium.
In 2015, Karen and her husband moved to the beautiful Shuswap. Since joining the Blind Bay Painters in 2016, she now enjoys painting on canvas with acrylic. Karen feels the pursuit of art and expressing oneself artistically is a fluid and continually evolving process.
