Thanks Sandy. I was lucky enough to take this picture to use as my reference when I went to Europe upon retirement. I’m not a history buff, but the pride I had as a Canadian, when the tour guide talked about how both France and British armies were defeated and their last hope was the Canadians to save France and force a German retreat, and miraculously they did! This painting is of the male figure representing the Mourning Parents twin statues of the famous Vimy Ridge Monument in France. The list of over 11,000 names is engraved around the exterior of the monument. The base of the monument reads: “To the valour of the countrymen in the Great War and in memory of their sixty thousand dead this monument is raised by the people of Canada. The battle was said to not only change both Canadian and world history. When I heard this year was the 100 year anniversary of Vimy Ridge, I HAD TO paint it, and every stroke brought back memories of that great visit. http://www.vimyfoundation.ca for more info about the Vimy Ridge battle and memorial.
I really like this one Betty!!!!!
